Showcasing Tech Innovation Businesses that Address Healthcare, Industrial Production, and Environmental Pain Points
HONG KONG SAR – Excitement is building as the University of Hong Kong Techno-Entrepreneurship Core (HKU TEC) prepares to showcase 30 dynamic startups at the upcoming HKTDC Entrepreneur Day. This entrepreneurial event is set to take place on December 4 and 5, 2025, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and promises to be a hub for innovation, networking, and collaboration.
Among the participating startups, 14 have benefited from the support of the Tech-Up GBA Innovators Programme (Tech-Up). They will present pioneering solutions tailored to address vital challenges in healthcare, industrial production, and environmental sustainability. This initiative not only exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit of university researchers and students but also highlights their commitment to addressing pressing societal needs.
HKU TEC was launched in 2023 as the cornerstone of the university’s burgeoning techno startup ecosystem. It aims to synergize resources and innovation support to create a vibrant environment for budding entrepreneurs. Through endeavors like the iDendron community hub, HKU TEC has nurtured over 500 early-stage startups, offering essential resources and fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration.
In a bid to further bolster youth entrepreneurship, HKU TEC initiated the Gear Up Startup Seed Fund & Incubation Programme, funded by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau (HYAB) alongside the Youth Development Fund (YDF). This successful programme incubated 14 startups and guided them in transforming their innovative ideas into viable business models, paving the way for their future successes.
Building upon the momentum of the Gear Up initiative, HKU TEC recently launched the Tech-Up programme, which extends a comprehensive suite of startup resources. This includes seed funding, entrepreneurial mentorship, and invaluable connections to industry networks, specifically aimed at empowering young entrepreneurs to thrive in the competitive Greater Bay Area (GBA) market.
From R&D to Doing Business
Entrepreneur Day will see the 14 startups showcase their innovative projects, underscoring the hard work of HKU faculty, students, and alumni. These projects leverage research and development to solve real-world challenges, offering a snapshot of the latest advancements in business development.
The showcased projects will span various sectors, prominently featuring healthcare, industrial production, and environmental sustainability. Highlighted innovations include personal care solutions like an AI-enabled menstrual pad and a probiotics beverage, alongside smart health monitoring systems. Other presentations will cover rehabilitation technologies such as a high-tech insole and a rehab robot. In the industrial and environmental sectors, offerings like a cooling accessory for outdoor workers and a solar-powered desalination system will catch the eye.
Among the standout participants are three full-fledged startups:
- DiamNEX: This hi-tech firm specializes in the research and development of flexible diamond membranes. Their proprietary technology overcomes previous challenges in producing large, high-quality, transferable diamond films, aiming for mass commercialization.
- ReGen Technology: They have developed a patented solar-powered desalination system that generates fresh water using only sunlight. This modular system is designed for off-grid use, making it ideal for agriculture and remote communities.
- LinguaLeap Tech: Their Aggray AI Rehab Robot focuses on providing training and nutrition management for individuals with swallowing difficulties, showcasing the intersection of technology and healthcare.
Dr. Paul Wang, Director of HKU TEC, is enthusiastic about the event, inviting fellow entrepreneurs, investors, and industry leaders to visit the booths of aspiring HKU startups. He hopes that attendees will explore potential partnerships and foster an environment of collaboration and growth.
